Nov 19 - I just put this (“We have food at home”) on the fridge. The boy is growing.

Nov 29 - ADVENT IS COMING!

As many of you may recall, Ian and I had a tradition of wrapping up 24 Christmas/winter-themed children's books for him to unwrap each night and read together. It took me a long time to find books on sale after Christmas each year to collect 24 "good" books.

And now, Ian is 13, and we don't snuggle up before bedtime. These days I text him from my bed that I'm going to sleep while he stays up after me. I asked Ian the other day if he could think of something we could do Dec 1-24 as an "advent" activity leading up to Christmas. He came up with a fantastic idea.

We are going to have two bags. One bag has 24 cards with Christmas/winter characters written on them. The other bag has 24 cards with Christmas/winter activities written on them. We'll pull a card out of each bag in the morning and then draw something representing that scenario. I'm excited!

I'll post the character/activity combo starting on Thursday, so you can play along if you'd like. If drawing is not your thing, you could write a haiku or short poem. You could make an Onion-type headline. It's up to you.

Character examples are:

- a gingerbread man

- the flannel-shirted small-town hunk from Hallmark movies

- John McClane from Die Hard

Activity examples are:

- licking a cold light pole

- opening a present of socks/underwear

- playing a flair-lit soccer game in No Man's Land

I hope we'll have lots of cool drawings from Shrop, Ian, and me to decorate the house. And I look forward to what you all might share as well!
