Experiencing technical difficulties

I had another post in mind for today, but have spent most of the evening wrestling with technology. I just fixed the CSS on my blog that's been messed up for months but I only noticed if I used Google Chrome because all the other browsers would compensate for it. My entries are no longer formatted entirely as headers!

I also have set up the wireless 1496 times in the house but can't seem to get it to work seamlessly, no matter how many extensions I add to the network. The walls in this house are literally made of steel, so trying to get signal of any sort in here is an adventure. My next plan is to try a newer base station, and then if that fails, I'm taking a hammer to all the equipment and running wires to every room.

Next on my list is to setup a backup machine/system for all our computers in the house. We have gigs and gigs of photos and I never remember to back them up myself, so I need something to just make it go for me.

Since I literally fell asleep last night with the iPhone in my hand, I think I'm going to step away from anything with a battery or power supply and read a good ol' fashioned paper book before bed. That or I'll just play Wurdle until I can't keep my eyes open anymore.

I've been shopping at my parents' house

Things I found (and took home) while sorting Rubbermaid tubs at my parents':

  • copies of the recommendation letters for my college scholarships from my teachers
  • my mother's work photo id from the year I was born
  • a cape my mother and I made for some sort of high school function
  • the pillow I sewed for my pet cat when I was about 7 years old
  • some curtains that might be salvageable
  • approximately $5 in mostly pennies and dimes
  • a printout of an email I sent my parents after splitting up with Jeremy
  • some very pretty wool yarn my mother bought at the thrift store

We sorted and labeled about 35 tubs and emptied/consolidated another 30 or so more. Things are looking better but I'm very tired. I need to go back to work so I can rest up from my day off.

To old friends and new

Rich's ex-girlfriend and her husband came to visit us this past weekend. I mentioned it to a few folks and got some raised eyebrows, but it didn't seem that strange to me. While Megan and Rich may have had a strong flame of a relationship at one point, it burned out a long time ago. On the other hand, Megan is new and shiny to me. Rich kept teasing me that he and Ben were just going to find something to do while Megan and I bonded since she was my new Internet Friend. BlogHer has been good for me in that I've made a lot of new female friends. I've always been the gal that hung out with all the guys, so if I'm at a conference where 98% of the attendees are female, I'm pretty much guaranteed to have to socialize with a woman or two over the course of the weekend.

I'm getting better at mixing my male and female friends, which proves I have had at least a little bit of success at this whole balance project for 2008. As the four of us went about the weekend, I found myself perfectly comfortable with everyone. Ben and I have some similar techie backgrounds (and I drooled over his kick ass bag), Rich is obviously someone I get along with well and Megan is so much like Rich at times I felt like I was talking to a shorter version of him with boobs.

The weekend was a great success and we look forward to spending more time with them soon. We'll have plenty to talk about as we catch up on the last 18 years.
