still sick, still cranky about it

I had soup for lunch and dinner today and approximately 2 liters of water. I almost doubled my basal rate of insulin per day. Most of yesterday I battled getting my blood sugar under control. I slept until 3am last night and tossed and turned until 6am when I could finally fall back asleep until around 10. And I've been stuck in the living room watching horrible TV (when I can manage to hear over the damn air return). Since I napped this afternoon, my sleep schedule is trashed. And the television options are not getting any better at this hour. I was too sick to go to dinner and a hockey game with our friends. I've been this sick since Wednesday night and instead of getting better my symptoms just seem to keep changing. The only good thing I can say about this illness is at least I'm keeping food and water down.

But yeah, I'm kinda cranky about getting sick.

a sickly day of love

The dog and I got sick at almost the same time last night. We think she has kennel cough and we think I have the flu. So neither of us have done much at today. I almost fell asleep in the vet's examining room waiting for him. One thing the vet mentioned was we could try giving Mollie some Benedryl. Wow, that knocked her out cold for a good 6 hours. My Sudafed, unfortunately, didn't work quite as well, despite it being the good stuff from behind the counter.

But mainly I wanted to comment that I have the best husband ever. He picked up Mollie's medicine on the way home in addition to diet Sprite and chicken soup for me. And he took his level 70 rogue out with my measly 49 hunter to help me kill swamp things. I'm almost to level 50 thanks to him. He also patiently sat through at least 5 episodes of Law & Order since I'm officially obsessed with that show.

So I'm feeling achy and feverish, but also very loved.

beauty school dropout

I called around to find out how much it would cost to go to school to become a nail technician. One school didn't offer it, one school only offered it as part of an 18 month cosmetology program and one school offered part-time classes for 10 weeks that met on Tuesday through Saturday from 4-8pm. None of those really fit into my work schedule. So armed with only a credit card and determination, I went to Sally Beauty Supply to try to fix my nails. Several had snapped and I was in danger of losing them all if I didn't do something tonight.

I soaked off the remaining acrylic while watching Law & Order (I can't quit you, Detective Goren) and attempted to reapply a fresh set. I thought I would do better with my dominant (left) hand, but I must have needed five fingers to practice because the second hand I tried looked much better. I'm hoping by the next time I try this I'm a little better. But they won't tear off and I can still use my nails like little Swiss Army knives.

After two hours and stinking up the living room, I'm reassessing the idea of paying someone else to do this.
