happy to put this day to bed

In under 12 hours I should be leaving for Philly with Rich so that in 19 hours I can be at a dinner table with co-workers somewhere in Philly after having checked-into the hotel and verified there are no fires. Somewhere in there I should sleep and pack the car (and get gas since the car tells me I have less than 9 miles left on the tank). I have packed clothes, toiletries, medical supplies and the laptop, but I'm certain there are lots of other things I'm forgetting. Mostly I just want to find my business card holder because it's beautiful and matches my fancy pen and having it would really please me right now. But it's lost in the house somewhere and I doubt I'll find it in the next 12 hours.

I think I'm just going to fix my low blood sugar and go to bed. Maybe it will magically turn up on its own or I'll dream about where it is.

We'll be in Philly at our conference until Monday night. Hold down the fort until we get back.

It's just been one of those days

I'm feeling both very smart and very dumb this evening. The dumb part is where I left my phone in my coat pocket at the office today because while I assumed it would be cold in January, it was 66 degrees when I left tonight. So after trying to make do without it for a few hours, I drove all the way back to get it and return home.

The very smart part is where I fixed one of my own acrylic nails all by myself. I asked for the nail tech to make them thin yesterday and she got a little carried away so one was so thin it cracked this morning. I could have gotten her to fix it, but she doesn't work evenings and I don't have the hour to spare during the day this week as we're prepping for our big conference.

So I trekked to the beauty supply store, agonized for almost an hour over what products to buy and came home to stink up the dining room with acrylic liquid and acetone. After an hour or so of futzing with all these products, I have a new set of nails that are sparkly pink! I now know more about how to do nails and more about what products I want to use, but now I just have to find a way to find them.

I'm seriously considering taking the ten week course to get my license as a nail technician so I can learn from the professionals and buy from the discount supply stores. It will give me a way to supplement my income or have something to fall back on if this whole software development thing doesn't pan out. If you mention my blog, I promise to give you a discount.

In no particular order ...

The 900 blood glucose test strips that were supposed to arrive on Saturday from Liberty Medical showed up today in the form of 200 test strips. Their entire ordering computer system is one giant lie. But I can check my blood again with the meter that talks to my pump so I'm pleased, even if Wilford Brimley is a lying jerk. I am currently dressed like a homeless person, complete with old grey sweater, knit tuke pushed way up on top of my head and gorilla slippers. Oh, and emerald earrings.

I cleaned out the cabinets in the kitchen today because I was convinced we didn't have enough space to store any food. Apparently, I just buy random amounts and varieties of food which is why there's no room for anything else. We have 4 different types of peanut butter in the cabinet and 3 different jars of pickles. The only things I was willing to part with were the hominy and the butter toffee sliced almonds. Really, what was I thinking?

I ordered 16 place settings of new dishes from Bed Bath & Beyond today and they'll be here next week. Our current dishes are plain, really freakin' heavy and missing in some areas. As a note, if you need to buy things like that from BB&B, go to the store because you can use your 20% off coupons and they'll still ship them to your house/office. We saved $64 on our order today. And if the dishes show up and we hate them we can return them at the store.

There are several Christmas presents we haven't bought yet and I don't feel bad about that at all. I'm enjoying taking my time, considering I bought a Christmas gift for Rich on the 27th and it really perked up my day. That's why we get 12 days is so I can enjoy the process while I plug away at getting gifts for friends. Except your present, I totally already bought your present and it's already wrapped and under the tree. Don't fret.
